A very simple thing to do each morning before getting out of bed is mentally
listing one’s blessings, the things you’re thankful to have in your life. So
many of our blessings are gifts: not produced by our own making. I encourage
people to start every day with the Serenity Prayer:
God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
Courage to change the things I can and the Wisdom to know the difference.
If I can go through a day on those principles, my day will go better. My
goal each morning is to put my mind in a place of positive serenity in spite
of what realities may be around. My analogy is that if I begin to collect
rotten apples in the morning at 6:30 a.m., by 8:00 a.m. I will have a bushel
of rotten apples. A bushel of rotten apples is hard to get rid of in a
single day. If I collect positive sweet apples, I continue to collect them
and the momentum of spiritual harmony builds.
